Katy Perry Shakes Off Midair Malfunction During “Roar” Performance in San Francisco

Katy Perry proved the show must go on — even when you’re dangling midair.

During her electrifying Lifetimes Tour stop at San Francisco’s Chase Center on Friday night, Perry experienced a heart-stopping moment when the massive butterfly prop she was riding malfunctioned mid-song. While suspended high above the crowd during her performance of the 2013 anthem “Roar,” the prop suddenly jerked and dipped, visibly startling the pop star.

Fan videos show Perry briefly halting the performance as she regained her balance, clutching the frame and glancing upward toward the overhead rig. Despite the unexpected drop, Perry quickly composed herself and resumed singing — earning cheers from the audience for her poise under pressure.

Though representatives for Perry have yet to comment on the incident, the star’s quick recovery kept the energy high and the show on track.

This marks the second high-profile tour mishap involving aerial stage effects this summer. Just weeks ago, a flying car prop on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour also suffered a tilt mid-performance in Houston, sparking industry-wide conversations about the complexity — and risks — of live spectacle.

Still, Perry’s seamless recovery was a reminder: pop stars may be flying high, but they know how to land on their feet.
