Katy Perry has addressed the criticism surrounding her decision to work with producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald on her upcoming album 143. In a recent interview with Call Her Daddy on Sept. 4, the 39-year-old pop star acknowledged the controversy, noting that Dr. Luke — who co-created some of her biggest hits like “I Kissed a Girl,” “California Gurls,” and “Teenage Dream” — was just one of many collaborators on the project.
Perry explained, “I understand the conversations it started, but Dr. Luke was only one of several collaborators. Ultimately, the songs are my personal experiences, my voice.”
The singer shifted focus to her album’s lead single, Woman’s World, emphasizing its empowering message. “When I talk about Woman’s World, it’s about feeling empowered as a mother and a woman. I created life, a brain, a heart — a whole human being. And I’m still here, still creating.”
143, which drops on Sept. 20, marks Perry’s sixth studio album. Described as a “bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album,” Perry shared that the symbolic title represents love. She is set to headline Rock in Rio in Brazil on the release day, her first appearance at the festival since 2015.
