Kate McKinnon may have left Saturday Night Live, but she hinted that a return to her comedic roots could be in the cards. During a Monday appearance on the Today show, the multi-Emmy winner told co-host Savannah Guthrie that she’s open to stepping back onto the SNL stage.
“I still live in New York, so it’s just a short train ride,” McKinnon joked with her signature smirk. “Yeah, I’d love to come back.”
In fact, McKinnon has already made a brief return earlier this year in April, appearing alongside Ryan Gosling for the “Close Encounter” sketch during the show’s Cold Open.
The SNL alum was on Today to promote her new children’s book, The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science, set to debut tomorrow. She revealed that the idea for the book came to her when she was 26, but the final product came together over the years as she honed her writing skills while working at SNL. She humorously admitted to having 500 drafts of the first chapter saved on her computer.
Meanwhile, SNL just kicked off its 50th season with host Jean Smart and musical guest Jelly Roll, tackling hot topics like NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ indictment and Maya Rudolph’s iconic Kamala Harris impression.
