Kanye West Pulls Ozzy Osbourne Sample from “Vultures 1” Amid Controversy

Kanye West has made the decision to remove a live sample of Ozzy Osbourne’s iconic “Iron Man” performance from his latest release, “Vultures 1”, following public disapproval from Osbourne. The sample, originating from Osbourne’s 1983 US Festival performance, was initially included in the track “Carnival” on West’s collaborative album with Ty Dolla $ign. However, after Osbourne’s explicit refusal and subsequent denouncement of West’s actions on social media, West retracted the sample from his album.

Osbourne, the revered “Prince of Darkness” and lead vocalist of Black Sabbath, expressed his disdain for West’s unauthorized use of the sample, attributing his refusal to West’s controversial statements and labeling him as an antisemite. “I want no association with this man!” Osbourne declared, distancing himself from West and the album’s listening party where the sample was first played.

This move by West to eliminate the disputed sample underscores the legal and ethical complexities surrounding sample usage in music, especially involving figures with significant public personas and stances. The incident has sparked conversations about copyright, permissions, and the moral obligations of artists in their creative processes.
