Kamala Harris Makes Met Gala Debut in Powerful Off-White Ensemble Honoring Black Style

Kamala Harris made a striking entrance at the 2025 Met Gala, marking her debut at fashion’s most anticipated night with a look that blended elegance, cultural homage, and quiet power.

Wearing a black-and-cream silk gown designed by Off-White’s IB Kamara, the former vice president stood out in a sea of avant-garde silhouettes with a look grounded in precision and symbolism. Kamara described the creation — which included a flowing silk scarf and dramatic sleeve — as a tribute to “strength and confidence,” qualities he associates with both Harris and the theme of this year’s gala.

This year’s Costume Institute exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, spotlighted the legacy of Black dandyism and fashion as self-expression in the African diaspora. The theme, “Tailored for You,” inspired some of the evening’s most personal interpretations, including those from co-chairs Colman Domingo and Pharrell Williams.

Photographed alongside Kamara and husband Doug Emhoff, Harris exuded quiet poise, her presence making a statement beyond style — one of cultural recognition and continued visibility. Despite her lower public profile following the 2024 election, Harris’s appearance at the Met Gala was anything but subdued.
