Kal Penn, best known for his iconic character in Harold & Kumar as well as his part in Barrack Obama’s administration, has just publicly come out as gay while concurrently announcing his engagement to his fiance, Josh. The two have been together for 11 years.
“I’ve always been very public with everybody I’ve personally interacted with. Whether it’s somebody that I meet at a bar, if Josh and I are out or we’re talking to friends,” Penn shares in an interview about his new memoir “You Can’t Be Serious,” which releases tomorrow, November 2nd.
In the book, the actor tells the story of meeting Josh while working in Washington. Although he is committed to maintaining much privacy for himself, his fiance, and their families, Penn still hopes to be as authentic and as intimate with his fans as possible.
“I wanted my story to be authentic from my perspective and told in a way that makes you feel like you really get to know me,” he explains. “I want the reader to enjoy the love and the humor through all of [the] stories.”
