Jon Bernthal is going to be back for his role as Frank Castle, The Punisher for Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again for Disney+. He will be alongside Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio for the series that starts filming in New York this month. Born Again will be an 18 episode epic, with writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord behind the show that is expected to release in spring of 2024.
Bernthal originally played The Punisher during Netflix’s 2016 second season of Daredevil and continued to headline his own series on Netflix. He went on to play The Punisher for two seasons of his own show, The Punisher from 2017 to 2019. However, other characters from the Daredevil series are not expected to join.
Back in late 2021, Bernthal spoke of the chance that Frank Castle may join the MCU and stated that he hoped to retain the darkness of the Netflix version. Bernthal stated, “I think if there’s any let up on that character, you do a disservice to the character, to every iteration of the character, to every comic book that’s come before, and to all of the unbelievable fans of the character, This character means so much to people in the military. So like I said before, it’s not about whether you do the character; it’s about whether you can do it right, and I’m only interested in doing it right.”
