Johnny Depp To Direct For First Time in 25 Years

According to hollywoodreporter.com, Johnny Depp is set to direct for the first time in 25 years. With the last time he directed a film being in 1997 for The Brave, Depp is getting behind the camera for Modigliani, a film about Italian artist Modigliani, and will be co-producing along with Al Pacino and Barry Navidi. Production of the film will begin in the spring of 2023 with casting yet to be revealed. According to Depp, “The saga of Mr. Modigliani’s life is one that I’m incredibly honored, and truly humbled, to bring to the screen, It was a life of great hardship, but eventual triumph — a universally human story all viewers can identify with.” Depp will also be playing King Louis XV in French director Maïwenn’s love story Jeanne du Barry, which began shooting in July and is Depp’s first feature in three years. Although Depp is most known for his onscreen roles, Depp has produced ten films total, with 2020’s Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan being the most recent.
