John Mellencamp decided to donate an archived collection of his life and music to Indiana University, as it was announced by IU President Pamela Whitten on Friday, March third.
The archive includes original creative works, pictures, instruments and other memorabilia that relates to Mellencamp’s music, artwork, social activism, and philanthropy.
Whitten stated that, “His collection will be an incredible resource for arts scholars and a clear source of inspiration to our students,”
As a thank you of sorts, Mellencamp will have a sculpture commissioned for the Bloomington campus. With Whitten adding that the sculpture will be located near the Fine Arts Plaza on the campus and will symbolize the connection Mellencamp has to southern Indiana.
