John McEnroe’s iconic 1984 Nike Mac Attack shoe is making a comeback later this month. As Hypebae reports, Nike has unveiled the “OG” colorway after debuting a campaign with Travis Scott and the legendary John “Johnny Mac” McEnroe himself dubbed “Rebel like the OG.”
Between albums, we’ve seen Nike and Travis pour huge amounts of energy into swooshing it up. As Highsnobiety reports, they’ve certainly covered their bases, delivering a three-way Air Jordan 1 with fragment, several other “Reverse Swoosh” AJ1 styles, low-top AJ1s, a series of Air Max 1s, an Air Trainer 1, Air Jordan 6s, and a host more silhouettes.
Fans have remained hungry for more, rarely satisfied. Recently, in the run-up to Utopia, which is expected to drop in the coming weeks, we’ve seen an alternate version of the recent “Olive” AJ1 Low which sported Utopia typography at the rear. Additionally, Nike and Travis have spent the past month teasing a new silhouette within their collaborative catalog, which, it turns out, is the second coming of the Mac Attack.
The Mac Attack shoe, which originally launched in 1984, was a tennis silhouette produced for Jon McEnroe. Naturally, the McEnroe once again takes center stage for the silhouette comeback in its OG colorway. To mark the sneaker’s return – which is scheduled for June 23 – Nike has launched a series of promotional ads, including a video that features Travis alongside Jon McEnroe.
“The classic silhouette from the ’80s is back with the Attack, inspired by the hot-tempered spirit of tennis legend, John McEnroe,” Nike stated in its “Rebel like the OG” marketing campaign. “Sparked by the high-heat cultural buzz and public figures like short film co-star Travis Scott, Nike is officially reviving the legendary sneakers.”
The marketing campaign continued, “Through the spirit of rebelliousness and individualism, the Attack is back to inspire today’s young rebels and subcultures to express bold innovation through their styles and patterns.”
The sneaker will contain its original designs and contain a light gray hue with black swoosh. The Nike Mac Attack “OG” is slated to release on June 23, priced at $120 USD.
