Singer and all-around great guy John Legend did something only a handful of entertainers or performers have a e achieved – earning membership in the ‘EGOT’ club, which is winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Although the Emmy celebration for 2018 isn’t until next Sunday September 17th, the Emmy committee held the first of two Creative Arts Emmy Awards, live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
John Legend earned an Emmy for his work in the Andrew Lloyd ‘Jesus Christ Superstar Live’ Webber and Tim Rice which aired live on NBC this past Easter. The actual Emmy won by John came from the ‘Creative Arts Emmy’ award, and frankly he was stunned to hear the news. Although Easter seems like a lifetime ago, John portrayed Jesus in the ‘Jesus Christ Superstar Live’ and will also keep him in the running for yet another Emmy this Sunday September 17th for the ‘Outstanding Actor in a Limited Series or Movie,’ category. There are only 12 in the ‘EGOT’ club which include Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, and Rita Moreno.
The real live broadcast of the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards is next Sunday September 17th on NBC, hosted by Michael Che and Colin Jost of Saturday Night Live fame.
