According to usatoday.com, something unusual occurred at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest when a protestor decided to rush the stage and bumped into the 15 time champion Joey Chestnut, as security rushed in to remove the protestor. Joey Chestnut didn’t wait for security to help as he decided to get involved and put the protestor into a mini chokehold after he grew frustrated with them, in the middle of the contest. After the brief exchange between the protestor and Chestnut a security guard quickly removed the fan and without a delay, Chestnut returned to eating hot dogs as quickly as he could while the person was taken off stage. The protestor had on a Darth Vader mask and a sign that read, “Expose Smithfield’s Deathstar,” which is a reference to protesting against factory farming. Chestnut ended up winning the contest by eating an impressive 63 hot dogs in total during the competition, still short of his 2021 record of 76.
