Jimi Hendrix is coming to Detroit thanks to the Detroit Institute of Arts at the end of this week. We know the Motor City is famous for its considerable contributions to music; the entire Motown stable of artists, Bob Seger, Eminem, and more. In 2018 there will be a Jimi Hendrix connection thanks to the Detroit Institute of Arts, one of the leading art houses in the US.
The ‘DIA’ has purchased the artwork of artist Cornelia Parker in London, which is displayed and assembled out of an actual staircase, taken from a London apartment once inhabited by Jimi in the late 60s. The Detroit Institute of Arts will call their exhibit ‘Out of the Crate; and open January 12th. The legendary Detroit Art institution is located on iconic Woodward Avenue and has lots of daily and weekly community events and exhibits for visitors.
