Jessie Takes the Lead in Pixar’s Toy Story 5

(L-R): Bullseye and Jessie (voiced by Joan Cusack) in Disney and Pixar's TOY STORY 5.

Pixar is bringing the toy box back to life once again. The newly released full trailer for Toy Story 5 reveals a story that feels both timely and nostalgic, as Bonnie’s beloved playthings face an unexpected rival: technology.

Set to hit theaters on June 19, the fifth installment finds Jessie stepping into a leadership role as Bonnie’s toys struggle to hold her attention. Their competition comes in the form of Lilypad, a sleek tablet that quickly becomes Bonnie’s newest obsession. Voiced by Greta Lee, the gadget represents a modern challenge that earlier generations of toys never had to confront.

While Jessie works to keep morale high, she maintains contact with Woody through a trusty walkie-talkie. Woody, who departed at the end of the previous film to explore life alongside Bo Peep, makes a return that is heartfelt but not without humor. His reunion with the gang includes some good-natured ribbing, particularly from Buzz Lightyear, over a new poncho that becomes an instant punchline.

The trailer also leans into playful absurdity. Forky, the craft-project-turned-toy favorite, appears in a child’s imaginative wedding scene involving a toy knife, a reminder that Bonnie’s creativity remains boundless even as her attention shifts.

The cast blends longtime franchise voices with new additions. Familiar performers return to reprise beloved characters, while new actors take over roles following the passing of original cast members. The film also introduces fresh personalities, including Atlas, a GPS-inspired hippo, and Snappy, a camera toy with a lens on the action.

Behind the scenes, Andrew Stanton and Kenna Harris co-direct the project, guiding the series into its next chapter. Randy Newman returns to provide the music, and the unmistakable strains of You’ve Got a Friend in Me once again underscore the emotional heart of the story.

As Toy Story 5 prepares for its summer debut, the trailer suggests a film that balances humor, heart, and a surprisingly relevant look at how childhood play continues to evolve in a digital age.
