“I didn’t love myself,” Jessica Simpson admits in an emotional, empowering Instagram post, reflecting back on her “rock bottom” night back in 2017 as she celebrates her commitment to sobriety ever since.
Written in her 2020 memoir Open Book, Simpson tells about the incident on Halloween four years ago where she drank all day and was unable to help dress her children for a family-friendly party that evening. The next day, a group of concerned friends staged an intervention. This, according to the singer, was her much-needed wake-up call.
“I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore,” Simpson writes in her post, sharing an almost unrecognizable photo of herself taken on the November 1st morning in 2017. “I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction — and quite honestly I was exhausted. I wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor. I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward — never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.”
Now, the Dukes of Hazzard star says she is “free” with more self-love, power, and courage than she has ever had before.
