Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are officially ending their marriage, according to a filing in the Los Angeles Superior Court. Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday, marking the two-year anniversary of their wedding ceremony in Riceboro, Georgia, which followed a secret elopement in Las Vegas just a month earlier.
The split comes amid reports that the couple had been living apart, with Lopez canceling her summer tour to focus on family and the pair listing their Beverly Hills home for sale. Their divorce marks the latest chapter in a high-profile romance that has captivated fans for decades.
Lopez and Affleck first met over 20 years ago on the set of the 2003 comedy Gigli, where their on-screen chemistry sparked a real-life relationship. Though they went their separate ways and married other people, their love story was rekindled in 2021, much to the delight of their fans, who coined the term “Bennifer 2.0.”
Affleck proposed for the first time in November 2002 with a custom pink diamond ring, but the couple postponed their 2003 wedding due to intense media scrutiny and eventually split in early 2004. After reconnecting in 2021, they got engaged again in April 2022, with Lopez describing their reunion as a “beautiful love story” and a “second chance.”
In 2024, Lopez released a documentary titled The Greatest Love Story Never Told, chronicling her journey to self-love and her relationship with Affleck. Despite the optimism, recent signs of trouble emerged, with the couple seen spending time apart, including Lopez’s Bridgerton-themed birthday celebration in July, where Affleck was notably absent.
Lopez shares two children with ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Affleck has three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
