Country music sensation Jelly Roll, born Jason DeFord, has received a unanimous recommendation for a pardon from the Tennessee Board of Parole, marking a significant milestone in his journey from troubled youth to celebrated artist.
At 17, DeFord was convicted of robbery, followed by drug-related offenses at 23. These convictions have since restricted his international travel, hindering both his musical tours and philanthropic endeavors. In a heartfelt appeal, Jelly Roll emphasized his desire to share his message of redemption globally, stating, “I want to be an inspiration for people who are now where I used to be—to let them know that change is truly possible.”
The parole board’s recommendation now awaits the decision of Governor Bill Lee, who has issued over 90 pardons since 2021. Should the pardon be granted, it would not only facilitate Jelly Roll’s international engagements but also symbolize the transformative power of rehabilitation and second chances.
