Country music star Jelly Roll is set to make history as “American Idol’s” first-ever Artist in Residence for its upcoming 23rd season. This role will see him working closely with contestants, offering guidance and firsthand advice throughout their journey on the show.
Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, previously appeared on “American Idol” during its 22nd season as a mentor, where he performed his song “Halfway to Hell” and provided valuable insights to the contestants.
In a promotional video alongside host Ryan Seacrest, Jelly Roll expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “I’m American Idol’s Artist in Residence!” He emphasized his commitment to uplifting and energizing the contestants, aiming to guide them through the challenges of the competition.
This season also marks a significant milestone with former “American Idol” winner Carrie Underwood joining the judges’ panel, replacing Katy Perry. Underwood’s return comes 20 years after her own victory on the show, bringing a unique perspective as the first alum to serve as a judge.
Season 23 of “American Idol” is scheduled to premiere on March 9, with a special preview airing on March 2 following the 97th Oscars.
