Jennette McCurdy Heals From Traumatic Childhood With One-Woman Show, “I’m Glad My Mom Died”

Jennette McCurdy is putting on a one-woman show titled I’m Glad My Mom Died.

“It’s thought-provoking,” the iCarly alum explained in a recent interview. “But even though it may seem black and white, there’s a fullness to my narrative. Life can be dark—and messy. Nobody has a perfect life.”

McCurdy recently shared about her painful childhood with her abusive mother, detailing experiences from eating disorders stemming from aesthetic pressure, being unable to shower alone, and being the main source of financial support for her family by 11-years-old.

Writing and directing her own show through dark-comedy catharsis, as well as working on an upcoming memoir, has helped McCurdy heal from the trauma.

“I did not know how to find my identity without my mom,” she shared. “And I’m not going to lie. It was very hard to get here. But now, I’m at a place in my life that I never would have thought was possible. And I finally feel free.”
