A woman who previously accused hip-hop moguls Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping her as a teenager in 2000 has now admitted she fabricated her claims, alleging that her attorney pressured her to sue the billionaire rapper.
In a shocking turn of events, ABC News obtained an audio recording in which the anonymous accuser, known as Jane Doe, told private investigators that she was encouraged to falsely implicate Jay-Z (real name Shawn Corey Carter) in the alleged assault.
A Lawsuit Built on Lies?
The woman originally filed a lawsuit in December 2024, alleging that Jay-Z raped her at a VMA afterparty when she was just 13. However, in the newly surfaced recording, she backtracked on her allegations.
When an investigator directly asked if Jay-Z was involved in any sexual acts, Jane Doe responded, “Yeah,” acknowledging that he had no connection to the crime she previously accused him of.
She went on to claim that her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, played a key role in pushing her to include the music mogul in the lawsuit. “He was the one that kind of pushed me towards going forward with him, with Jay-Z,” she said. When asked to confirm that she was referring to Buzbee, she responded, “Yeah.”
Attorney Denies Accusations
Buzbee has categorically denied the allegations against him, calling them a “blatant lie” and asserting that they contradict “all the documentary evidence” related to the case.
Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, also weighed in on the revelations, stating that his client never met Jane Doe and had no involvement in any wrongdoing.
“The tape speaks for itself,” Spiro said during an interview on Good Morning America. “She says—in no uncertain terms—Mr. Carter did not do this. It is effectively a lie. The only reason Mr. Carter is even involved in this is because she was pushed to include him by a lawyer.”
A Hard-Fought Battle to Clear His Name
The now-dismissed lawsuit had already caused significant turmoil, with reports that Jay-Z had even received death threats as a result of the allegations.
With Jane Doe’s recantation, the case takes yet another dramatic turn, highlighting the dangers of false accusations in high-profile legal battles. While Combs, who has been facing his own wave of legal troubles, was also named in the original lawsuit, Jane Doe’s latest revelations primarily focus on Jay-Z.
As the fallout from this bombshell revelation continues, one question remains: Will there be legal consequences for those involved in bringing forward what now appears to be a fabricated claim?
