It’s been nearly four years since Jason Hook parted ways with Five Finger Death Punch (FFDP), and the split was far from amicable. At one point, Hook suggested he had been issued a gag order to prevent him from discussing the details of his departure. Now, with a new band called Flat Black, Hook seems to have moved on from his FFDP days, maintaining limited contact with his former bandmates.
“I have the occasional text message with Ivan [Moody, FFDP’s singer]. He’s kind of the only one I really communicate with,” Hook shared in a recent interview.
When asked about the possibility of Flat Black playing shows with FFDP, Hook’s response was unsurprising to those familiar with the circumstances of his exit. “That would be up to them. My guess is they probably wouldn’t do that. But you never know. Whatever,” he said. Hook further added, “I don’t know where their heads are at. I’ve just been completely disconnected from the whole thing since 2020.”
Given the history, it’s fair to question why Hook would be expected to know the current mindset of his former bandmates. It’s akin to asking someone about their ex-partner’s activities—unnecessary and likely unproductive.
For fans interested in catching Flat Black live, the band has several upcoming tour dates, including a fall tour supporting Godsmack. Just remember, Flat Black is Hook’s new chapter, so refrain from shouting out requests for Five Finger Death Punch songs.
