Janelle Monáe Strips Down For Spotify Singles

Janelle Monáe has been pretty transparent about naming the artists who inspire her music. Along with her musical idol Prince, whose sound heavily influenced her astounding album Dirty Computer, Monáe has previously mentioned reggae legend Bob Marley as one of her major inspirations.

The singer paid homage to Bob Marley in her new set of Spotify Singles, released Wednesday, November 14th. Along with a smooth rendition of her single ‘I Like That’ off of Dirty Computer, Monáe delivers a brand new cover of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ ‘High Tide or Low Tide’ from their 1975 album Catch a Fire.

Monáe also shows off her unique singing ability on ‘I Like That,’ where her free flowing vocals take center stage. The song is revamped as a live version, with less focus on the beat as in the original, and with a stunning guitar solo added at the song’s finish.
