Jane Fonda Mourns Robert Redford: A Tribute to a “Beautiful Person in Every Way”

Legendary actress Jane Fonda is openly grieving the loss of her longtime friend and frequent co-star Robert Redford, who passed away at age 89 at his home in Utah. Fonda, 87, released an emotional statement saying, “It hit me hard this morning when I read that Bob was gone. I can’t stop crying.”

Redford and Fonda shared the screen in five films over more than six decades, including Barefoot in the Park, The Electric Horseman, The Chase, and Our Souls at Night. Their professional relationship grew into one of deep mutual respect, with Fonda saying Redford “meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way.”

More than just a co-star, Redford embodied ideals that Fonda says we must continue to uphold. She asserted that Redford “stood for an America we have to keep fighting for,” pointing to his activism, environmental work, and his role fostering independent film through the Sundance Institute.

As tributes flow in, Fonda’s grief reflects not only personal loss but admiration for Redford’s legacy. The film world mourns the passing of a creative giant—but Fonda reminds us that his life will continue to influence art, activism, and what it means to stand for values beyond stardom.
