Yes, there are signs of Autumn all around us, but fashion is always one seasonal step ahead. Spring has been everywhere on the runways, and as the final stop in a month-long, multi-city tour though the fashion capitals, Paris Fashion Week never fails to finish strong. Known for attracting the most forward-thinking, big-swinging designers, it’s also arguably the most important city when it comes to driving new trends.
As Fashionista reports, the entire industry looks to Paris for an early peek into how folks will be dressing in the coming seasons, and a few big trends came out on top for Spring 2025. See them all below.
Boho’s Back
As the Y2K conversation starts to wane, designers are beginning to pull from the decade’s later years — specifically the celebrity-driven craze that was “boho chic.” Given that Chloé and Isabel Marant were among the original propellers of the trend, it’s no surprise that they’re nailing it again in 2024. Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Zimmermann also made strong cases for boho staples like low-slung belts, billowy dresses, gladiator sandals and long, dangling necklaces.
Deliberate Defects
Parisian designers might confuse some of their manufacturers when their Spring 2025 designs go into production, as many of them incorporated (intentional) defects into their clothes, for a surrealist take on deconstruction. See: misplaced neck openings at Vetements and Ottolinger, upside-down tops at Acne and Paloma Wool, and jackets that appear to fasten asymmetrically up the side or back at Hermés and Uma Wang.
Graphic Material
From Miu Miu to Ganni to Loewe, designers used graphics and logos to add a casual, individualized feel to their collections — even as many in the industry argue that streetwear has fallen out of favor.
No Shirt, No Problem
The rise of corporate-core has brought about collections filled with nicely tailored blazers and other jackets. Perhaps so as not to detract from their construction, several designers in Paris chose to show them with nothing underneath. Often, they were also left unbuttoned for a precariously sexy look that’s typically more common in menswear.
’80s Power Shoulders
Speaking of tailoring, slouch was out on the Parisian Spring 2025 runways. Instead, designers extended and padded the shoulders of jackets, tops and dresses for a distinctly ’80s aesthetic. Saint Laurent led the charge, but Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton, Patou and others got the memo as well. If you carry a lot of tension in your shoulders, you’ve already got the look down.
Polka Dots (Lots)
After polka dots appeared sporadically during the preceding fashion weeks, Parisian designers confirmed that they will be A Thing come spring. Valentino and Nina Ricci committed to head-to-toe dots, while Acne Studios and Paloma Wool incorporated them more subtly.
Stripes of all Types
Stripes may be a classic pattern, but when we see so many designers — from Chanel to Louis Vuitton to Vaquera — incorporating them so deliberately into their collections, we know a trend is afoot. From pinstripes to nautical stripes to rugby stripes and everything in between, there was plenty of variety on the Spring 2025 Paris runways.
