Trader Joe’s bag discourse is never quiet. But as Delish reports, a new rumor has sent the TJ’s internet into a very specific spiral: a dark purple insulated bag may be dropping, well, any day now.
According to Instagram account @traderjoesobsessed, the upcoming color is allegedly called Purple Rain, and while the image shared is just a mockup, it’s already enough to send fans and collectors alike into pre-drop mode. If you thought the dusty blue cooler bag had people lining up last month, just wait until its much moodier, Prince purple kissing cousin shows its face.
If you know Trader Joe’s, and you know and love their insulated bags, then you know the bags aren’t just bags. They’re merch. They’re status symbols. They’re occasionally flipped on resale sites for truly unhinged prices. So even the rumor of a new colorway is basically a bat signal for TJ’s superfans.
The comment section for that Instagram account is already acting accordingly. “You KNOW I need this color,” one person wrote. Another called it “stunning,” while several fans admitted they absolutely do not need more bags but will still buy multiple anyway. Someone else said they’re holding out for mini versions—which, if history repeats itself, will be absolute madness all for the price of $2.99
To be clear, Trader Joe’s hasn’t confirmed anything just yet, and the image, again, is just speculative. But a potential heads-up is still nice, as cooler bags in unexpected colors can sell out fast and become instant collectibles.
