Iron Maiden’s Original Singer Paul Di’Anno’s Cause of Death Confirmed

The cause of death for Paul Di’Anno, Iron Maiden’s original lead singer, has been revealed following an autopsy. According to an official statement shared on Di’Anno’s Facebook page, the vocalist, aged 66, passed away due to a tear in the sac surrounding his heart, which caused blood to fill the area from the main aorta artery, leading to an immediate heart stoppage.

A Heartfelt Message from Di’Anno’s Family
Di’Anno’s family, including his sisters Cheryl and Michelle, shared the difficult news with fans, expressing their hope that his passing was both instantaneous and painless. In their statement, they said, “Basically he had a tear in the sac around the heart and blood has filled inside it from the main aorta artery and that has caused the heart to stop.” Fans have responded with an outpouring of tributes and condolences, reflecting Di’Anno’s profound influence in the metal community.

A Tribute Show in London
Friends, fans, and family members gathered over the weekend at London’s Underworld Camden for a commemorative show honoring Di’Anno’s legacy. The event allowed those close to him to come together, sharing memories and celebrating the life and career of the late singer.

Paul Di’Anno’s Legacy with Iron Maiden
Di’Anno, born Paul Andrews, fronted Iron Maiden from 1978 to 1981, contributing his punk-infused vocals to the band’s early sound. He performed on their 1980 debut Iron Maiden and 1981’s Killers, both of which helped launch the band to international fame before Bruce Dickinson succeeded him as lead vocalist. Reflecting on Di’Anno’s legacy, Iron Maiden released a statement: “Paul’s contribution to Iron Maiden was immense and helped set us on the path we have been traveling as a band for almost five decades. His pioneering presence as a frontman and vocalist… will be very fondly remembered not just by us, but by fans around the world.”
