The 37th Film Independent Spirit Awards just had its full list of nominations revealed yesterday.
Zola, a dark comedy based on a viral Twitter thread about a part-time stripper’s nightmare trip to Florida, topped with seven nominations for the 2022 Spirit Awards. The Novice follows behind with five overall nominations and The Lost Daughter with four.
Focusing on movies that are mostly produced and conceived outside of the Hollywood mainstream, the 2022 Spirits will return to an in-person ceremony after a completely virtual celebration for the 2021 show. In order to qualify, eligible films have to have budgets of less than $22.5 million. Winners are selected by members of Film Independent, and the event will air on IFC on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
