Facebook users may have noticed a new feature – or annoyance – on the mobile app following a recent update. It now makes a noise as you scroll. So why is that? Here’s what to know.
Why the Sudden Chirping?
As Record-Courier reports, some iPhone users have noticed a new noise following an update to Facebook’s app last week. According to Dataconomy, the purpose is to supposedly make scrolling more engaging and interesting. But many are definitely not pleased with the change.
How to Stop the Chirping as You Scroll Through FB
If you want to disable the new chirping sound effect, here’s how to do it:
- Open the Menu by clicking the bottom right button of the Facebook app.
- Under Settings and Privacy, click the Settings button.
- Click the Media button under Preferences.
- Under Sounds, toggle the In-App Sound to off.
Turning off the In-App Sound feature will end the chirping as well as the noises users hear when pressing the Like, Comment and Share buttons. But users will still be able to hear sound from videos.
