According to hudsonstarobservor.com, two years ago when David Noles and Matt Bos daughters began playing Hockey they realized their wasn’t much opportunity for girls to get ice time in the summer, and the pair decided to do something about it. Noles is quoted in saying, “We found out there really isn’t a lot of opportunity for girls to do something in an environment just with girls, There’s a lot of stuff for boys. My son plays hockey and has the ability to do anything he wants. But it really is limited for girls.” Noles and Bos rented ice time, found coaches, and began a summer program only for girls. Resulting in FLAG Hockey, a summer training program for girls 14 and under. FLAG stands for Fast Like A Girl, Noles is quoted in saying, “Matt and I were texting one afternoon trying to figure out what we call this, And the first thing I came up with was Skate Like a Girl. And then I looked at the acronym and realized that’s pretty bad. So we came up with Fast Like a Girl.” In addition to the 14 week training program that they put together, the program also includes seven different empowerment sessions where women in leadership roles are brought in to speak to the girls and inspire them. The program takes place in Hudson, Wisconsin, and also features seven future star sessions for girls as young as six years old to take part.
