Ann Wilson, the iconic lead singer of Heart, revealed on Tuesday that she has been diagnosed with cancer. The 74-year-old shared the news in a heartfelt statement on social media, detailing her recent health journey.
“I recently underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous,” Wilson wrote. She assured fans that the surgery was “successful” and that she is “feeling great.” However, her doctors have recommended a course of preventative chemotherapy, which she has decided to pursue.
As a result, Wilson announced that she will be taking the rest of the year off from performing. Heart’s North American “Royal Flush” tour, which was set to continue at the end of July in Ohio and conclude in Las Vegas on December 15, has been postponed until next year. The tour included stops in dozens of cities across the U.S. and Canada.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band is renowned for hits like “Magic Man,” “Crazy on You,” “Barracuda,” and “Alone.” Wilson expressed her regret about the postponement, stating, “I really do wish we could do these gigs,” but affirmed her commitment to returning to the stage next year.
“My team is getting those details sorted & we’ll let you know the plans as soon as we can,” she added, emphasizing that this would be her “last public statement” on the subject. Wilson thanked her fans for their support, calling this hiatus merely a “pause” and reassuring them, “I’ve much more to sing.”
