On January 19th, 1946, Dolly Parton was born. Today, the Queen of Country is turning 76!
According to her own website, Parton grew up as the fourth child of 12 in Locust Ridge, Tennessee.
Over the course of her rhinestone-studded career, the music icon has had 25 songs reach No. 1 on the country music charts, won 11 of 50 Grammy nominations, and, among a myriad of other accomplishments, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
Parton is part of a small group of people who can line their shelves with an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award. She has also been honored with the Living Legend Award from the U.S. Library of Congress in 2004, the Kennedy Center Honors in 2006, and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
While she is most known for her distinct, southern twang, Parton has also become a dedicated philanthropist, businesswoman, and even saved a young girl’s life–who appeared alongside the big-haired American treasure in Netflix’s Christmas on the Square–by pulling her out of the way of oncoming traffic. Is there anything Dolly Parton can’t do?
Happy Birthday, Dolly!
