Long before topping charts, Halsey became a viral sensation — not for a hit single, but for singing Blink-182’s “I Miss You” at a Pennsylvania mall. Now, the pop star is embracing that unforgettable moment, affectionately dubbed “Mallsey” by fans.
During a candid appearance on Owen Thiele’s In Your Dreams podcast, Halsey joked about how going viral can be unpredictable. “You don’t get to decide what defines you,” they said. “And for me, it might just be singing at the mall as a kid.”
The story behind the video is pure early-2010s internet culture. Riding a wave of Tumblr popularity, Halsey agreed to an impromptu meet-up at the King of Prussia Mall. Pressured by eager fans, she nervously delivered an a cappella performance — complete with Tom DeLonge’s signature nasal twang — and the rest became meme-worthy history.
Despite “Mallsey” living rent-free in fans’ memories, Halsey isn’t stuck in the past. They confirmed that new music is on the way, following their 2024 album The Great Impersonator.
Currently, Halsey is also riding high off a recent collaboration with Evanescence’s Amy Lee on the powerful single “Hand That Feeds,” signaling an exciting next chapter in their ever-evolving career.
