Halle Berry is opening up about her recent departure from the highly anticipated legal drama All’s Fair, produced by Ryan Murphy and set to star Kim Kardashian.
While attending the red carpet premiere of her new film The Union, the Oscar-winning actress addressed her exit from the Hulu series, telling Entertainment Tonight, “Things happen for a reason.”
Berry was initially slated to both star in and produce the project, which revolves around an all-female law firm. Reflecting on her departure, she shared, “I would’ve loved to have been there with those ladies. I know it’s going to be great. [It’s] Ryan Murphy! I mean, duh. But next time.”
Reports of Berry’s departure surfaced last month, citing scheduling conflicts as the reason. Before stepping away, she was set to star alongside Kim Kardashian and Glenn Close, with Kardashian portraying a top divorce lawyer. The ensemble cast also includes Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash, Teyana Taylor, and Naomi Watts, though further details about the plot and characters remain under wraps.
Berry, who has mostly focused on film in recent years, would have made a rare return to television with All’s Fair. Her last significant TV role was in the 2013 sci-fi series Extant, produced by Steven Spielberg.
Besides The Union, Berry is set to appear in the upcoming horror film Never Let Go. Speaking about her upcoming 58th birthday, Berry shared, “Never felt better. I feel great.” She also mentioned her long-term boyfriend, Van Hunt, has already received her birthday wishlist. Berry also expressed gratitude for her co-star Mark Wahlberg, who surprised her with a visit from his burger food truck, calling it an “early birthday present” and praising him as “a man of his word.”
