After a seven-year hiatus, A.V. Undercover is back, and the return couldn’t be more electrifying. When we teased the comeback on Twitter, our friends at Consequence suggested that GWAR cover “I’m Just Ken” from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. We were on board if the interplanetary warriors were, and it turns out, they were all in.
Fresh off their blood-soaked performance at Bonnaroo, GWAR joined us at Second Take Sound in Midtown Manhattan. Driven by a playful fascination with Ryan Gosling, the alien rockers reimagined the anthem, transforming it into “We’re Just GWAR.” Blöthar the Berserker took the lead, belting out lyrics that mocked mundane metal bands and proclaimed GWAR’s unparalleled dominance. Gosling’s Grammy dreams pale in comparison to this wild rendition.
The performance marked a sensational start to A.V. Undercover’s ninth season, blending GWAR’s signature theatrics with a touch of Hollywood flair. Fans of both GWAR and Barbie will appreciate this unique mashup that only these cosmic musicians could pull off.
