Gucci Mane Opens Up About Schizophrenia and Bipolar Diagnosis in Raw Memoir Reveal

Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane has publicly diagnosed himself with both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, marking a pivotal moment in his ongoing journey of self-discovery and recovery. His revelations come in his newly released memoir, Episodes: The Diary of a Recovering Mad Man, where he details hearing voices during psychotic breaks and experiencing intense paranoia during a crisis in 2020.

His wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, offered a moving account of how she supports him through these episodes — removing his social-media access, recognizing warning signs like withdrawal and insomnia, and shielding his public image during vulnerable moments. Gucci Mane recalled being trapped in a “warped world” during psychosis, admitting to disorientation and regret at actions he couldn’t control.

The rapper emphasized how fatherhood, therapy, medication, and a rigorous support system turned the tide. Having avoided a full episode since 2020, he stated plainly, “You’ve got to want it more than they do.” His candor shines a spotlight on mental-health conversations within hip-hop culture, a space where awareness remains overdue. Gucci Mane’s new chapter is about more than chart success—it’s about survival, accountability and the quiet victory of staying stable.
