Sad news out of Savannah GA this weekend as Gregg Allman, founding member of the Allman Brothers, former husband of Cher, and one in a million singer, has passed away at the age of 69.
In 1969, brother’s Duane and Gregg Allman, Dickie Betts, Jaimoe Johanson, Butch Trucks, and Berry Oakley began a journey that would take them to international celebrity and tragedy, giving the world ‘The Allman Brothers.’
The Allman Brothers sold over 100 million albums, earning countless Grammy awards, induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, and recorded what many consider the greatest live album ever released, “Live at Fillmore East” in 1971.
The Allman Brothers were like any family; they had issues but supported each other in times of need. Death would touch the band early in their careers, Berry and Duane died in separate motorcycle accidents almost a year to day apart, while the others were kept out of harms way (in spite of their own demons) until Butch Trucks died in January of this year.
