Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award Fun Facts – Part Two

The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards were announced recently, and the new inductees are Run-D.M.C., Earth Wind and Fire, Jefferson Airplane, Herbie Hancock, and Linda Ronstadt. Here’s our final look at these deserving musicians…

Earth Wind and Fire is one of those rare soul groups out of Chicago from the late 60s that brought a horn section to the rock stage, and made rock n’ roll music like the group Chicago. (You can see how they were influenced by this group) They earned countless Grammy, Billboard, and American Music nominations and awards during their time.
How successful was EWF? They are in the Hall of Fames for “Rock ‘N Roll,” “Songwriters,” “Vocal Group,” “NAACP,” and “BET.”

Linda Ronstadt has been battling Parkinson’s disease, so it’s unlikely she will be able to attend The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards ceremony. During her time, she has sold over 100 million albums, is a member of the Arizona and Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame, and has been nominated 27 times for a Grammy (winning 11 times).

Herbie Hancock was born in Chicago in 1940, and is perhaps the most interesting of the 2016 Grammy Lifetime members. Herbie is a publisher, writer, pianist, composer, and experimental musician that took technology to the rock stage. Herbie became the pet musician of break-dancers in the 80s, and his jazz fusion of songs, along with his MTV hit “Rockit” broke all the rules and records. Herbie’s music is Hip-Hop, Rock, Jazz, and Pop all rolled into one.
