According to 2news.com, Girls on the Run Sierras, (GOTR-S) is hosting camp GOTR this week at Reno High in Nevada. The camp is for girls aged 8-12 years old and gives them the chance to bond with their peers and make new friends along with engaging in a robotics program. During the five day long camp ran by Girls on the Run Coaches, the camp teaches healthy habits, connections, and character building, while using interactive games, arts and crafts, and story telling to empower the girls. FIRST Nevada partnered with GOTR-S to allow the girls to engage in a robotics program that involved the FIRST® LEGO® League robotics through coding, building, and teamwork, while setting up the girls for a future in the science field. The girls will experience building a team before designing a mission patch and learning about the challenges of space exploration, while coding their way through a series of robotics missions using LEGO SPIKE Prime Kits. The program is meant to engage young girls with robotics, while giving them an outlet to explore their creativity and communication amongst their peers, with the hope that they will stay interested in STEM.
