Girls Learn About the Ocean, Space, and Environmental Science Via Girl Scouts

According to kauainownews.com, Girls throughout Hawaii and beyond had a chance just last month to learn about Hawaii’s multi-natural cultures, science, technology, engineering, math and space through activities during an event through the Girl Scouts of Hawaii called the inaugural Pacific Exploration in STEM program at Camp Paumalu on Oʻahu’s North Shore. According to a quote from Girl Scouts of Hawaii CEO Shari Chang, “The Pacific Exploration in STEM program was the first international event held at the newly-constructed STEM Center for Excellence at Camp Paumalū, It was an exciting and busy week for the girls, who gained hands-on experience in engineering, biology, astronomy, technology and cybersecurity through some really fun activities.” Activities at the camp featured hiking, archery, snorkeling, building a drone, surfing lessons, traditional farming, and were also partnered with organizations that introduced students to a number of STEM careers. Such as Oceanit, the University of Hawaii School of Engineering and the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology. The girls were also able to experience Hawaiian culture via working with the Polynesian Voyaging Society and Polynesian Cultural Center and others. Pacific Exploration is one of many Girl Scout Destination programs that take Girl Scouts on adventures throughout both the country and the world.
