‘Girl Up’ Helps Girls Feel Empowered Via Positivity

According to wibm.com, in Topeka, Kansas a group of Highland Park High School students are looking to spread positivity. Student leaders from the Scots’ “Girl Up” program handed out flowers to their classmates last week in honor of Nation Suicide Prevention Week along with kind words that stated things such as, “You matter,” and ,“You are beautiful.”

Senior Alize Davis is president of the group and was joined in the flower distribution by senior Daymor Morales Conner, junior Jaydah Watson, and sophomore Erika Roberds. The program is currently in its sixth year at Highland Park and aims to empower girls in the school via positive affirmations, self defense classes, self-care lessons, and even how to change the oil on their cars. They also volunteer in their community for other organizations in order to make a bigger impact in their community and school.

Girl Up is a program through the United Nations that aims to empower and develop young female leaders around the world.
