Giants Owner Speaks Up After Carlos Correa Deal Caves

Carlos Correa was going to be introduced as the latest member of the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday morning and now he is headed to the New York Mets instead. A few hours prior to Correa’s scheduled press conference in San Francisco, a medical issue was found in Correa’s physical and his 13 year, $350 million deal with the Giants fell through.

In the midst of it, Steve Cohen and the Mets took advantage and agreed to a 12 year, $315 million deal with the 2021 AL Platinum Glove Award Winner. Zaidi confirmed that there was a “difference of opinion” in Correa’s physical even though he was cleared by doctors, the Giant’s did not like what they saw. Scott Boras stated publicly that, “While we are prohibited from disclosing confidential medical information, there was a difference of opinion over the results of Carlos’ physical examination. We wish Carlos the best.”

The Mets have now committed over $790 million in payroll in offseason signings that also includes three time Cy Young Award winner, Justin Verlander for $86.6 million over the next two years. They also have a five year, $102 million deal with Edwin Diaz and brought back Brandon Nimmo on an eight year deal worth $162 million. They also have Francisco Lindor with a ten year deal that is worth $341 million, the fourth largest contract of all time. Correa will be sent to third base while Lindor stays at shortstop for the Mets.
