No matter how you drink your coffee – black, sweetened or frothy – there’s a deal for you this National Coffee Day, celebrated on September 29 annually (International Coffee Day is just two days away, on October 1)! Today, restaurants, convenience stores and brands alike are toasting the made-up holiday by giving away free coffee or serving up discounted brew. With the Fall season arriving and the smell of Pumpkin Spice in the air, these java deals couldn’t come at a better time.
Even with inflation and tariffs hiking up prices, coffee’s popularity remains secure with 66% of Americans saying they drink at least one cup daily, up nearly 7% from 2020, according to a survey from the National Coffee Association.
As USA Today reports, most coffee drinkers consume more – about 2.8 cups daily – according to a survey of 1,862 U.S. adults conducted in June 2025 for the group by Dig Insights. grabbing coffee on the run remains high – 36% of coffee drinkers consume the beverage away from home – most (82%) had the beverage at home over the past day, the survey found.
“Coffee’s staying power as a beloved touchstone in Americans’ daily lives is remarkable, and its contributions to our health and our economy give Americans even more ‘grounds for celebration’ this National Coffee Day and every day,” said National Coffee Association president and CEO Bill Murray in the survey’s news release.
Still, coffee is getting pricier. In August, the average price of a pound of ground roast coffee cost $8.87, up 40% a year ago, when it cost $6.31, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index. In part due to the weather/climate change, but also inflation and tariffs.
So a deal or a freebie would help the coffee budget. Here’s a good serving of specials for National Coffee Day, but remember to check the social media account of your favorite local coffee shop for more deals, too.
