Frank Zappa’s Life Work Has Officially Been Sold to Universal Music Group From the Family Trust

According to Ultimateclassicrock.com, Universal Music Group has announced the purchase of Frank Zappa’s estate from the family trust that is maintained by his children. The Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) president and CEO Bruce Resnikoff said that, “It has been a privilege to work with the Zappa family to release Frank Zappa’s music around the world, grow his audience and protect his legacy for the past decade,”  and continued to say that, “Zappa was a pioneering, visionary artist who created an incredible body of work, and we are incredibly proud that Gail, and now his children, have entrusted us with his important legacy.”The deal includes the rights to Zappa’s myriad recordings, 60 plus albums from his publishing catalog, his film archive, the Vault that contains his life’s work as well as, the rights to his name and likeness. Zappa passed away back in 1993 at the age of 52 years old after fighting with cancer. UMe also recently purchased Neil Diamond and Sting’s catalogs. The CEO Resnikoff also promised to, “continue to develop innovative ways to celebrate his vast and influential catalog for both longtime fans and those just discovering his genius.”
