Forty Years Old is the New Now in Fashion

The ’70s was an era in fashion that created a host of trends that are still rocking the runways in 2018. Look closely at what designers are showing and you’ll see wrap dresses, plain midi skirts or denim dresses, over-the-knee or slouchy boots, Boho chic blouses and accessories, basket bags, pantsuits, safari chic, neck scarves, tonal colors, velvet and corduroy fabrics, and slinky “naked” boudoir-inspired satin slip dresses that would make Diane von Furstenberg, Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld proud.

While the ’70s sweeps over the runways every couple of seasons, there’s always still a hint of it on the streets if you look closely. It was also a period where mass-market, trend-driven fashion was more readily available. With the general public able to access the looks, the cool chicks were able to switch it up more often, sparking even more eclectic and now timeless looks. Whether you’re into hippies, disco queens, rockers, punks or retro nerds, what you’ll notice is that so many retro fashion moments modeled on late 70’s style icons like Cher, Diana Ross, Bianca Jagger, Diane Keaton, Debbie Harry and Lauren Hutton are still significant today.
