On Thursday, February 18th, the Foo Fighters took to Twitter to announce their exclusive interview with BB Radio 2’s Sofa Session with Jo Whiley. The clip also includes a very special performance, paying homage to the Bee Gees with a cover of the 1976 hit “You Should Be Dancing”.
The rock icons stick pretty closely to the original, though they do add a touch of rock to it. In the band’s cover of the disco tune, Grohl matches Barry Gibb’s falsetto nearly flawlessly.
After the tune finished playing, Grohl explained to host Jo Whiley how the cover came to be. Th rocker shared that the band had been in the studio with a to-do list when one of the guys asked if he had seen the recent Bee Gees documentary, The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.
“I was like the last person on Earth — the only person — that hadn’t seen it. So I was just like, ‘Why don’t we do a Bee Gees song?'” Grohl recalled. “Someone was like, ‘How do you want to do it?’ And I said, ‘Well, let’s do it like the Bee Gees.'”
On February 5th, The Foo Fighters dropped their 10th album, Medicine at Midnight. Five days later, they were nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s class of 2021.
