In a bold and innovative move, Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C. has delivered a captivating cover of Bring Me The Horizon’s (BMTH) “Can You Feel My Heart,” seamlessly blending it with elements of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box.” This performance, part of triple j’s renowned “Like A Version” series, showcases the band’s ability to reinterpret contemporary tracks through their unique artistic lens.
Departing from the heavy guitar riffs characteristic of the original BMTH track, Fontaines D.C. opted for a synth-heavy, minimalist arrangement. The absence of guitars allowed for a dreamy atmosphere, with frontman Grian Chatten’s vocals adding depth and emotion. The unexpected transition into Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” further enriched the performance, creating a seamless fusion of two iconic songs.
Indie is not a genre
Guitarist Conor Curley shed light on the band’s song selection, noting that the electronic elements and overall vibe of “Can You Feel My Heart” resonated with the themes explored in their latest album, “Romance.” He described the track as “a moody, beautiful song,” aligning with the band’s evolving sound.
Fontaines D.C.’s daring reinterpretation has garnered widespread acclaim, with fans and critics praising their creativity and willingness to push musical boundaries. This performance not only pays homage to the original artists but also solidifies Fontaines D.C.’s position as innovators in the contemporary music scene.
