Florida is the Sunshine State. It’s also the state that gave us the following super bands. This list will surprise you.
Creed, the religious leaning rock band starring Scott Stapp (who has been divorced, bankrupt, and in rehab within the last five years), hails from Tallahassee and started his rock journey in 1993. Creed sold nearly 40 million records in their career.
Harry Wayne “K.C.” Casey of K.C. and the Sunshine Band was born in Hialeah, Florida (where the word sunshine comes from) and was a studio technical with big dreams.
Lynyrd Skynyrd met in high school in Jacksonville, and named their band after their favorite (or least favorite teacher as he continued to bust their chops) Leonard Skinner.
Tom Petty worked on the campus of the University of Florida as a teenager, and his dad was furious with him that he didn’t attend the school and set out to be a rock star. They reconciled years later.
