Falcons Fire Head Coach Raheem Morris, GM Terry Fontenot After 8–9 Season

The Atlanta Falcons have officially fired head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot, signaling a major organizational shift after the conclusion of the 2025 NFL season. The decision came late Sunday night following the Falcons’ 19–17 victory over the New Orleans Saints, which capped a four‑game winning streak but left Atlanta at an 8–9 record for the second straight year.

Despite the late surge, the franchise’s continued absence from the playoffs proved to be the deciding factor in parting ways with both Morris and Fontenot. Owner Arthur Blank expressed appreciation for their contributions but stated that the team needed fresh leadership to reach its goals.

Morris, who took over as head coach in January 2024, leaves with a 16–18 record across two seasons without a postseason appearance. Although the Falcons threatened to break their playoff drought late this season, they ultimately lost the NFC South tiebreaker to the Carolina Panthers.

General manager Terry Fontenot, hired in 2021, also exits with a losing record and mixed results in key personnel decisions. Atlanta has not won a playoff game or achieved a winning season since 2017, extending one of the league’s longest droughts without postseason success.

The Falcons are now expected to embark on a search for a new head coach and general manager, aiming to re‑energize the franchise and alter its trajectory for the 2026 season.
