Eva Mendes Opens Up About 8-Year Acting Break: “I Won’t Do Violence”

Eva Mendes has recently opened up about the reason behind her choice to not act in any movies for over eight years: her two daughters, Esmeralda, 7, and Amada, 6.

“I have such a shortlist of what I will do [now],” Mendes explained her new strict standards for acting since becoming a mother. “I mean, if it was a fun project [I’d do it]. But now I won’t do violence, I don’t want to do sexuality, the list is short.”

The last film Mendes worked on was a voiceover role on the animated children’s show “Bluey,” in 2021. Before that, she was in Lost River, an R-rated drama written and directed by her partner, Ryan Gosling.

“My mom was able to be there for me at home until I was about 8 or 9,” Mendes said of her dedication to focusing on her daughters, “and those memories for me, that just formed who I was, those years with her.”
