Eddie Mahoney was born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island. Early in Eddie’s life it was clear that he would follow in the footsteps of his dad, his uncles, and the other male figures in the Mahoney family – to be a proud New York City fireman. There was only one problem: Eddie wanted to rock. In his early 20s, Eddie left for Berkeley, California, changed his name to Eddie Money, and stated paying his dues.
“Baby Hold On,” “Two Tickets to Paradise,” plus “Take Me Home Tonight” were chart busting rock songs in the early to mid-70s. It seems Eddie made the right decision not becoming a firefighter after all. Eddie Money released 11 albums along the way, getting his music to appear on a recent GEICO commercial.
There was price to pay for fame and fortune as Eddie’s drinking got out of control, so Eddie enrolled into the 12 step program in 2001. Eddie remains clean today, still taking time out of raising 4 sons and a daughter.
